The Algorithmic Bioinformatics group, headed by Prof. Dr. Holger Fröhlich, started at the B-IT in January 2010. Our focus lies on the development and application of computational approaches for
- network and systems biology (network inference & modelling / simulation)
- biomarkers for personalized medicine
- functional genomics (e.g. pathway membership prediction, functional protein similarity based on Gene Ontology, gene set analysis)
The basis for our research typically comes from high-througput data (microarray, mass spec, Reverse Phase Protein Arrays, deep sequencing, ...). We specifically rely on machine learning / statistical modelling approaches to data analysis.
